How does a fogging machine work?
The fogger uses pressure to create a fine mist (or fog) which is applied to the targeted area, the spray density typically being moderated by a manual valve to ensure the optimum effect. The fine fog can reach into corners and difficult areas and may also penetrate porous surfaces
Where can I buy strong or concentrated antiviral disinfectant for a fogging machine?
You can buy super concentrate, strong is not required, as long as the chemical components are effective to kill off the virus – aptcommercialchemicals.co.uk/antiviral-disinfectant The fogger uses pressure to create a fine mist (or fog) which is applied to the targeted area, the spray density typically being moderated by a manual valve to ensure the optimum effect. How do I sanitise and disinfect a large room using an Infection Control Fogging Machine?
The best way to sanitise a large room quickly and completely is to use an appropriate size fogging machine, such as FO 500, which has a range of up to 10 metres and a variable switch to control the output of the antiviral sanitizing solution to maximise the coverage.
What area can I cover with an antiviral fogging machine and How long does it take to fog a room?
Most APT Fogging machines will cover a 1500 cubic metres room space in around 5-7 minutes.
How long do I have to remain out of a room before I can re-enter it safely after using a fogger machine?
We recommend 30 to 40 minutes after routine sanitising. However, rooms can be entered into around 20 minutes or less depending on atmospheric condition, heat and ventilation.
How do I set up the chemical fogging machine to achieve the best micron size and coverage?
Generally the setting of the machine should be set around – ¼ to 1/2 of a turn or number 2-3 on the control switch. This provides droplets of around 30 microns which produces enough humidity to allow the antiviral disinfectant to fully cover the surfaces and sufficient contact time to allow the antiviral disinfectant to work. Atmospheric conditions influence drying times especially in hot summer.
“A good test is to first set up the fogging machine and use water this will allow you to get an accurate cover ratio and get used to the fogger. Spray the water solution through fogger machine into a room, above a table and check the level of coverage after allowing few minutes contact settlement. Then time how long it takes to dry off, it should be around 15 minutes. Adjust the chemical flow accordingly until satisfied on contact time/coverage.”
What do I need to safely start fogging and sanitising with antiviral disinfectant?
You should have a full PPE safety pack; goggles, PPF3 mask, gloves, moisture resistant hooded coverall suit, this is included with most APT fogging starter packs.
Where you cannot purchase a coverall suit, you can use overalls/waterproof clothing and then put it through the washing machine.
What is the recommended procedure for my staff to carry out fogging?
When you purchase your starter packs from APT you will be provided with the full fogging procedure job method for carrying out disinfecting and sanitising.
It is recommended that you produce a full set of Rams H&S documents to comply with Risk Assessments protocols for you and your operatives. APT can produce generic Rams upon request.
What do you put in a disinfectant fogging machine?
We strongly advise that you use an antiviral disinfectant and sanitiser that has been tested against viruses and other harmful bacteria, we recommend APT VIROKILL, which is a Super Concentrated Disinfectant cleaner and sanitiser with a fast kill rate to fight against coronavirus.
Viro Kill is a powerful fast acting amphoteric terminal disinfectant is scientifically designed with a broad spectrum of activity and complies to BS EN14476, EN1276 & EN13697.

Viro Kill is food safe, so can be used in food manufacturing & processing plants.
Avoid using antiviral disinfectants that contain parasitic acid, hydrogen peroxide or sodium hypochlorite-based bleach disinfectants, these are very powerful, harsh chemicals and are not suitable for many internal surfaces. They can also affect machine performance and require extra safety precautions. They should only be used by a trained professional.
